Lakes Whitsun 2007
The
weather had reverted to normal bank holiday form and was predicted to be a
complete washout for the weekend.
Ce la Vie we thought and headed off for the weekend.
Saturday promised to be the best day of the weekend but rain was predicted by the afternoon so myself and Brian headed off for Shepherds crag to get in as much as possible.
Zoe, Bloke and James followed a bit later. Unfortunately Zoe was a few minutes too late and spent the next three hours playing hunt the parking space.
Back at the crag old VS favourites such as Brown Slabs Crack and Ardus were ticked off. After a quick feed we'd thought we'd have a quick look at innocuous looking VD. We determined where the route started and up we went or rather didn't. After going round a bulge it started to go stupid with a distinct lack of kit. Herr Quinn took over after my ignominious defeat got higher and started struggling - this couldn't be VD!! Fortunately after declaring it was about HVS territory a convenient tree provided a lower off for Brian. A more thorough look at the guide book revealed two things an unrecorded corner at Shepherds plus after removing a bit of vegetation the real route - indeed it was VD.
Meanwhile Alan and James were attempting to climb Crescendo (S) but showed similar route finding ability so nicknamed their wanderings Anti-Crescendo. A now calm Zoe returned to do a few routes in the evening sun.
We met up with Ali and Steve who were venturing forth on day cycle rides whilst trying not too offend their scary landlady back at base.
Sunday dawned rainy so the lightweight team did some walking whilst James and Brian battled with the showers and managed a few routes, they finished off in fine style on Monday by persisting in climbing when Winter had virtually returned but James career may have been threatened by frostbite.
Anyway a few photos below for you to have a look at.
