The Bowline

Climbing Club

Membership Information

The Bowline Club was formed to promote climbing just over 50 years ago. Although climbing is still the main activity of the club members, many other activities are indulged in such as running, canoeing, cycling and sailing.

The Club meets every Wednesday evening at the Cow & Plough pub, in Stoughton near Shady Lane Road from 9.00 p.m onwards.  On Wednesday evenings in the spring onwards there is running around Leicestershire and also climbing on the local Charnwood crags.

On most weekends a group will be climbing in the Peak on at least one day on the weekend, this is usually arranged informally in the Pub on the prior Wednesday.

Details of Weekend meets or summer meets in the Alps or other venues are posted up in the Pub and put in the Newsletters. A list of contact numbers and officers of the Club is given below with a list of forthcoming meets.

The Bowline Climbing Club

Application for Associate Membership

Initially you are asked to become an associate member of the club by paying a joining fee of £15. This gives you all the rights of full membership, except for BMC Affiliation and voting rights at Club General Meetings. For example, you may use the club hut at members’ rates and participate in all meets. As we get to know you, so associate membership can be upgraded to full membership.
I accept that mountaineering, hill-walking, rock climbing and other activities carried out by the Club are potentially dangerous and wish to participate in them voluntarily.

I understand that the Club holds membership data on computer file. I do not object to this or the data being used to compile lists of Club members for members use.
